It Started Innocently – Pornography
It started innocently. Late one evening JP was at his work desk answering some emails and finishing up some last work when he opened up a message that contained pornographic images. All alone in the room, he looked around quickly and opened the images to see more. He continued looking at these Images and after a while became aroused sexually. “What am I doing and why am I looking at this?” JP asking himself upset-tingly and abruptly stopped what he was doing and deleted the emails and content. JP knew about pornography and the devastating affects it has on once life and marriage. He urged the young people at church not to expose themselves to that world and to stay pure and blameless. But here JP was a Christian, involved with the youth ministry at church, letting himself be aroused by pornography. JP confessed his sinful actions to God and prayed for forgiveness, but the feelings of guilt about what he has done stayed with him for weeks.
Then JP found himself looking at these images again and again. And soon JP started to look forward spending the late working evenings looking at pornographic material, and by this time knew how to access and find by ease. He felt guilty about his behaviour and what he has done every time, but kept on repeating this pattern for months on end. His computer screen was facing away from the door, so that if his wife or kids might enter the door he can quickly change the image screen. He often thought about how his wife would react if she had to find out about what he is doing.
Later that week one of the youth in confidence confessed to JP that he was involved in pornography and needed help. JP knew he was a hypocrite, trying to help someone else and knowing he himself became trapped. JP then made a brave decision to go and talk to his old professor about what he is hiding in secret.
The struggle with sexual temptation and self-control has been called “every man’s problem,” especially in today’s age where there is blatant sexual talk and behaviour, and it is evident in the media and in most movies, and easy access on the internet for pornographic sites.
This is a struggle many men today are struggling with and don’t know how to get out. They are caught up in this lustful behaviour and it influences their lives and families on a negative way.
JP took advice and rearranged his office so that his computer faces the door way, so that it makes it risky to open any pornographic sites. He found an accountable partner to confine in and trust. The friend kept JP accountable and reporting back on a weekly basis of his sexual behaviour and his viewing and reading habits. This helped JD to overcome this struggle and he could walk with a clear conscience. Pornography portrays sex pervertedly.
